What’s Stopping You From Having a Successful Internet Business?

The other day, completely by accident, I was scrolling through my Facebook timeline and found Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge.  Okay, so of course I was targeted by a Facebook ad and OF Course Facebook knows me so well that it tries to provide me with things that are relevant for me.  Add that to the fact that I never back down from a challenge and NOW I’m participating in a 10 day blog challenge.  Now you’re asking yourself, what does that have to do with internet marketing.  I’m glad you asked.  Through the discovery process it takes to run an online business, sometimes you need to mix things up and, more importantly, you need to put yourself out there.  I think that is something that stops a lot of people, they’re afraid of what people will think or the people who might comment on social media about them, or they just don’t like feeling so vulnerable.  By the way, This blog post is in response to Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 1.  Well, here goes me putting myself out there and sharing with you, some of the challenges I have in making a lifestyle business online that will set me free from my job and let me do the things that I REALLY want to be doing.

MY 2 BIGGEST CHALLENGES

My first challenge is believing that my skills, knowledge, and content provide value enough to generate an income.  Self-doubt has a way of creeping up at the worst possible times.  For example, I’m in the middle of creating a video course as an upsell to a product I created.  As I prepare the content and how I’m going to present it, I keep finding myself studying more to make sure that I’m giving something relevant and that my information isn’t out-dated.  The more I search, the less I get done on my product and the more I think to myself, “someone has already done that!”

The second challenge is identifying the audience that I am really wishing to reach.  Who could benefit most from my expertise and would be able to use the information I’m sharing to truly get the results they want?  I think it would be so much more helpful to be able to have a congruent message that speaks to a specific person in need of help.  I haven’t quite nailed down my voice that speaks to a very specific person who, if I met with them, might tell me, “I thought your video was speaking directly to me!”

WHY A BLOG CHALLENGE?

As I thought about what my obstacles are, at least my SELF-PERCEIVED obstacles, I found myself having A-HA moments where I thought about things I might change in my routine.  I’m a busy father, I work a regular job AT least until I get focused and build a lifestyle business that allows me to never work for another company AGAIN!  Until that happens, I need to use the time that I do spend working my online business more wisely and more efficiently.  By the way I found an interesting concept called the Pomodoro Technique for time management, if you’re interested that sort of thing.  I think this blog challenge is a great way to step outside of my regular routine and explore some of those things that I might have been avoiding and making excuses for.

What are your challenges?  What do you think is stopping you from having the lifestyle you want?  Comment below and thanks for visiting!

Well done! I feel your pain on those two problems. I’m facing the same things really and its good to see someone else going through that–not because I like to see people suffer but because I can see that I’m normal to a certain degree. 🙂

I’m doing the challenge too and I am looking forward to seeing how other approach the topics. I’ve learned a lot just looking at what others have done.

Hang in there and maybe we can both meet up one day having overcome these challenges and made a great success!
